My Wife's Illness

I last wrote about my wife, Jennifer, and I celebrating our sixth anniversary in Asheville, NC.  That was close to a month ago.  I ended the blog post about my wife getting a giant migraine, thus ending the fun times on a difficult note.  Well, read on.

My wife got worse, if that's possible.  Her headache pain was on a scale of 10/10.  She developed nausea and threw up regularly.  Her joints bothered her, as did her lymph nodes.  Other symptoms appeared.  It was quite worrisome.  Finally I took her to the ER.  They did a few minor tests and a CT scan and concluded ... nothing.  (Actually, they concluded she wasn't pregnant.  Brilliant, eh?)  Gave her some pain meds and sent her home.   That ticked me off, as that was simply a bandaide  approach to me and solved nothing.  We then got her in to see a doctor, who thought it was Lyme disease, and gave her antibiotics for it.  Also tested her for a few other things, but Jen didn't improve.  She went back to a hospital for more tests, this time an ultrasound of her abdomen to see if she had f***ing gallstones!!!  Per the idiot doctor!  Naturally, she did not have gallstones.  A third visit to the hospital for more bizarre tests was scheduled.  Finally, we got her in to a different doctor.  He diagnosed her with viral meningitis!  Thirty days of being sick now, she finally seems to be improving a little, thank God.  He put her on an antiviral medication and she's been resting (and missing too much work) and hopefully she'll be better soon.  She still has extreme fatigue.

Meanwhile, I'm going to see the doctor today myself, as I am having similar symptoms.  I'm hoping for the flu.  I can't afford to miss a month of work, you know?  Fingers crossed....

Tenacity equals life

Congratulations on your tenacity in probably saving your wife’s life! Too many people assume that a medical degree equals intelligence equals competence. It just ain’t so, Joe. I myself have a bedside copy of The Merck Manual piled atop the PDR. Wisest investments I ever made. Knowledge is a life-saving tool.
Keep right on questioning. Best to you and Jennifer,

Thank You Mara!

Mara,

I apologize for taking so long to reply.  I got sick for a few weeks, and other things have popped up and I haven't been on here in a while.  I really appreciate your comments, and I too believe in the Merk Manual.  I hope you have a wonderful day!

Best,

Scott

Michael,

Thank you for your kind comments.  I apologize for taking so long to respond, but I got sick myself, and other things have popped up, so there you have it.  I hope you have a wonderful day, and again, thanks for the support.

what an awful

epilogue to an anniversary celebration. I hope she recovers fully, swiftly and that you are also well. Yet in a way it is a reflection of the love and commitment in your marriage, that you persevered through the dimwitted array of doctors, to find the solution. That is testament to a relationship based in real life, both the highs and lows.

Kunzang -- Thank You!

Hello Kunzang,

Thanks for your kind, supportive comments.  I apologize for taking so long to respond, but I did become sick, as I thought I might, and I was out of action for quite some time.  Anyway, I certainly appreciate it, and wish you a good day.
