Sarah Stern's Another Word for Love is part of Finishing Line’s critically acclaimed Chapbook Series. Stern explores love, loss, death, and desire in the family one is born into as well as in the family that one creates. It asks, among other questions, how one lives and finds beauty in a broken world.
Sarah gives an overview of the book:
Off Mott Street
Give me something to hold on to
blue of daybreak
as you move over the trees,
make me remember
the lines on my palms,
river road to somewhere new,
mother milk, love me like sugar.
Night, whole slices
by the yellow moon bench
where the girls in silver smoke
sit pretty, tulips.
Green turtles squirm upward
in a white bucket off Mott Street,
their shells soft like the first time
you brought me a cage.
I sat down in it and waited,
waited for you.
