Sarah Smiley is the author of Shore Duty, a syndicated newspaper column that reaches more than 2 million readers weekly, and of the memoir GOING OVERBOARD: The Misadventures of a Military Wife (Penguin/New American Library, 2005). Her essays have also been published in various books and national magazines, including eight different titles in the Chicken Soup for the Soul series.
The New York Times Magazine, Confessions of a Military Wife," by Alex Witchel) and Newsweek, and on ABC's Nightline, The Early Show, CNN, Fox News and others. In 2005, her life rights were optioned by Kelsey Grammer's company, Grammnet, and Paramount Television.
Sarah has been a Navy dependent for more than 31 years, first as the daughter of a Navy pilot, and now as the wife of a Navy flight instructor. She is the mother of three young boys.
