where the writers are
My first day of my first year of NaNoWriMo! Should I be scared?
I don't look scared...do I?

I think I should be scared!  I haven't really written anything (besides technical specs for work), since college.  And when I did write in college, I was always criticized for my writing style.  My teachers always were more impressed with my friend's writing than mine, because she had a large vocabulary and wrote in beautiful prose.  My style, however, is much more simple.  I like to write like I talk.  And I think a good majority of people enjoy reading a book that is more like a conversation with their friends than a textbook.  So...to each their own, but hopefully someone will enjoy reading whatever I decide to write this month.

Lately, the books that I've been reading are within the realm of Young Adult fiction.  Namely, the Harry Potter and Twilight series.  They are enjoyable, easy to read, and keep you interested all the way through the book.  That's the kind of book that I want to write.  Plus, obviously, there's a good market for that type of book.  Look at the success of these books and also the movies and merchandise that came from it.  It seems like these days all you need is to get the attention of a bunch of 13-year-old girls and you've got a blockbuster.  Luckily, my little sister is thirteen, so I've got my target audience right at hand!

Today I've been working through ideas and doing a little research on the internet.  I was diagnosed with MS two years ago, and it makes me very fatigued.  I spend a good portion of the day resting in bed, when I'm not working or eating.  I hope that I can change my habits to write instead of rest, but we'll see how that goes.  I am currently writing at my grandparents farm in Dawson, MN while my husband and his buddy Chad are out hunting for pheasants.  I'm feeling really productive today, so all I have to do is keep the momentum going and hopefully I'll get a novel finished within the next month!
