A miracle today: Nick, the only animal at Howling Woods without wolf blood was so aggressive on arrival in December, most of us believed he would and should be put down for everyone's safety. The shelter's owner, Mike insisted he be given a chance, so we had no choice but to work with him....

So, it’s no surprise the wolfish looking dog wandering the streets of Brooklyn was not claimed. It’s sad because the dog animal control officers...

Long before battles with white men, two young brothers named Chasing Fog and Lame Heart listened closely as their mother told them about the end of the world. They huddled together by a small fire of amber flame. And to the boys’ delight, the mellow glow got caught in their mother's shiny black...

Our First Rescue
Ishta (below) has done remarkably well. She comes to greet us in the mornings, tail up and wagging. We’re moving on to leash acceptance. As soon as she saw the collar and leash she bolted. I imagine the last time she saw one, she was being dragged away and stuffed into an animal control crate....

Ishta
Ishta is a wolf-hybred who came to a breed specific rescue facility where my daughters and I volunteer. Sadly, after witnessing the shooting death of her littermate, and experiencing  the same threat to her own life, Ishta was highly fearful of humans.  Since wolves and northern breeds...

Thorns and Flowers
There once was a girl full of hope. The people who loved and cherished the girl nourished her hope with promises that things would get better. But things only got worse and the girl fell into despair. I commend the gay and lesbian community for taking a stand with the, It Gets Better Project for...

What spell would a bully sorceress use to torment her rival? It's not a tough question to answer given the warped humor many American's find acceptable. According to our highest rated reality TV shows and viral videos, we actually think it's entertaining to watch someone fall, fail or make a...

Valley of the Gods
Fire has been a part of religious ritual and symbolic magic since ancient man learned to harness it. In my pursuit to naturally tame my daughter's anxieties we decided to use a little fire power to help her along and the result was simply magical. A little background: My daughter has...

Sticks, stones, and mean girls with phones, there is yet another way to further victimize tormented kids and it's coming from well-meaning adults. My daughter was a victim of psychological bullying in school for seven years. She was recently diagnosed with post-traumatic (really ongoing ) stress...

He's cute, he's likeable, he's inoffensive, and like everyone else out there who has surprise fame or stardom, he earned it. Talent aside, some of our biggest stars have something that sets them apart, making them shine beyond the screen and airways. If you asked Dakota Fanning or Justin Timberlake...

When I asked my writing partner to write a bio for our website and my newspaper blog, he sent me a sad, controversial, yet inspirational fairytale. Okay, I can work with that, but I worried. He comes from a land where censorship is enforced and speaking out can get you in trouble. Still, he...

Arcanom
A couple of weeks ago I decided to take a risk. I honesty don't know why I agreed to translate and globalize a novel originally written in Portuguese, but I did. My new writing partner called it fate. Rak M Nay is a comic book creator and artist from Brazil. Feeling the fantasy novel series...

In my room
The only things I remember about the 67' Newark riots were shouts, pops, and my mother yelling at me to, "Stay away from the window!" I assume the pops were gunshots. I may have been too young to remember much, but I was aware the following year and for years later that nothing was the same in my...
