With the release of my second book with an online publisher, the pressure is on to make more of my promotions. I've received my postcards as hand-outs for an upcoming conference and trade show I'm attending in the next couple months. I've created a newsletter to hand out at the conference with excerpts from my two published books and the synopsis for my third upcoming book. And I've put together a contest. What more can I do? Sales were slow (to say the least) for my first book. My editor says I need a substantial back list. So now I play a waiting game to see with three books out (last one at the end of October) how my will sales grow (or not).
What have I learned? Thank heaven I've had marketing experience. People love freebies. The more you can give away the more people are grateful. People love friendly, enthusiastic authors. This one is a no brainer but how do authors maintain the energy level for hours on end? People want to learn the secret of your success. Again, a no brainer. The truth (hard work and perseverance) is always the best answer.
What else can I do? I'm with an online publisher because of the higher payment rate and the wider audience it can pull. Do I just put my trust in fate? I suppose I must. And keep writing. Always, keep writing.
