where the writers are

The main influence in my writing has been a spare, trim historical novel by Hans Koningsberger titled A WALK WITH LOVE AND DEATH. In 1995 I wrote him a fan letter, care of his N.Y. publisher. I wanted him to know how much his novel had meant to me, that it was the only novel I read and reread. That letter was returned to me by the publisher. Eight years later, with the help of Google search, I discovered that not only was he now Hans Koning, but that he had a website. Excitedly, I wrote to him again, an email this time. Sadly, the letter was answered -- but by his daughter. Hans Koning had died several months before. I never got a chance to tell him how much his beautiful novel meant to me.
