About Me

  • Born in Yokohama, Japan, at the age of 12 months my family moved lock, stock and barrel to Dublin, Ireland where my father was one of the original 6 Karate Masters to bring Wado-Ryu Karate to Europe in the late 1960's. Eventually settling in Birmingham, England at the age of 6 and spending my formative years there, I am more 'Brummie' (the term used to describe someone from the Birmingham area of the United Kingdom) than Japanese in every sense, particularly in my outlook on life and sense of humour.

  • Ding-a-ling!

    January 31, 2010

    •   Ding-a-ling! Ding-a-ling! Over the last few days, the sound of a brass school bell emanating from our bedroom has repeatedly put a smile on my face. And "No!", hahaaa, it's not some kinky role-playing going on here, it's Gina's way of alerting me that she needs help or assistance while she is bed-bound and voiceless due to the flu. So, why do I smile when she is ...
  • I have a job!

    December 12, 2009

    • Following on from my blog, How to get a job - Marketing like an Author, where I described my activities in looking for a new role after being laid off earlier this year, I’m very pleased to announce that I have been offered a role that I was very excited to have accepted on Friday. It feels odd to blog about this event as I usually see this sort of thing as very private, but as so many people ...
  • I just 'am'

    December 6, 2009

    • I’m at peace.I just ‘am’.Am I content? I just ‘am’. My soul is quiet, my mind floats with no thoughts, my senses all neutral. Am I meditating? No. I just ‘am’.I had a desire to share this, so I let the desire write. The desire faded straight away so I’ll stop.
  • 23 years... seems like just yesterday

    November 28, 2009

    • Il destino. Destiny. Some things are meant to be. Some people are meant to meet. Gina and I were in the same place at the same time countless times throughout our childhood, despite living quite a distance from each other. I’ll write about that some other time. Today, a day before a very special day, I want to write about the day we met. Just over 23 years ago, I didn’t know it at the time but ...

  • Hi Jessica,

I hope all is well with you. :) Last year, I remember reading your Valentine's essay and I think that you mentioned that you wrote one every year.
  • This is wonderful!

Thanks for sharing. What an absolutely fabulous thing to do. :)
  • It's not easy.

I've done it and it was hard but it was completely necessary. I tried for over 15 years and it was making me ill on so many levels.
