Recently, London's Lord Mayor, Boris Johnson, was accused of 'inflammatory language' and criticised for hyperbole when he insisted that there would be “no Kosovo-style social cleansing” in the wake of cuts in housing benefit which would drive the less well-off out to the suburbs.
Personally, I'm all in favour of hyperbole. It's colourful. It's honest. It targets the point. It's often humorous. Picturesque exaggeration cannot be compared to that employed by Government statisticians or creative accountants, for instance, when the intention is usually to deceive.
