Hello, Tea Party? This is America calling to touch base.
I just wanted to tell you that I am on your side about cutting spending and reducing the deficit. I get it, we are all going to go down the tubes, if we don't do something pretty quick. I am with you on that.
But, we need to talk.
I have just elected a bunch of your people to office, and before they are even sworn in they have switched from talking about cutting spending to talking about cutting taxes for the rich, ending abortion, widening the war on drugs, closing off the borders to immigration, reversal of civil rights progress for Gays and other minorities, Christianity as a state religion, warring against Muslims and basically a complete social reversal back to how things were in 1950's America .....or even 1850's America.
Here's the deal Tea Party, while I am with you on the fiscal conservatism, I can't buy into social stuff you are advocating along with it.
I will never be happy with income taxes until they are fair, and they will never be fair until they are comprehensible. You should not need lawyers and accountants to pay income tax. They only add confusion and room to cheat. How about this, everyone pays a flat 10% income taxes with the first $50,000 of income being exempt and no other loopholes? There is a tax code in one sentence, and I am told that it will raise much more money that the current system without the built in corruption of morals.
To me abortion is a medical and ethical matter not a legislative issue. The government should butt out.
Mexican immigrants are human beings, they may break the law to get here, but they do it because their own country has been turned into a corrupt cesspool as a direct result of our US drug laws (coupled with our staggering illegal drug use) creating unbelievable profits in the illegal drug market. We owe these people some slack.
Gays have been persecuted too long, it is over, we are moving on to full citizenship for them. Trust me on this, Jesus was not a homophobe. He doesn't want you to be either, he told me so.
Native Americans were robbed and saw their culture destroyed when we took this vast country from them. Never once have we as a nation acted honorably toward native Americans. Maybe you could lighten up on the rhetoric against them, Tea Party. I would like it if you did.
And, that reminds me of African Americans. The civil war freeing the slaves ended in 1865. But, until 1965 most African Americans were denied the right to vote. As well as many other basic rights of citizenship that white Americans automatically take for granted. That too is over, but it has left a lot of wreckage to clean up behind it. It may take several more generations for our society to recover. Until it does, African Americans do not owe white Americans any apologies for their efforts to catch up with us. Whether you like it or not, much of America's wealth was built on slavery and on oppression of Blacks through the Jim Crow laws of the 100 years after the civil war. Until 1965 almost all African Americans were denied their rightful piece of the cultural and economic pie. They are in catch up mode and are richly entitled to all possible consideration. And, yes I know that our President is an African American, I also know that many bigoted people of my acquaintance will still not rent to or employ Black Americans simply because of their race. You know these people too, Tea Party, and they must be either educated or outlived for us to finally see racial justice in America. Could we work together on this?
Women still get paid less for doing the same work as men. I don't like this, and am working to stop it. Let us respect everyone's rights equally. Can you get aboard with me on this?
Far too many Americans are going to prison over minor drug charges. The prisons are overflowing, and they are nothing more than crime schools turning the slightly wayward youth into hardened career criminals. This is hurting America even more than our government spending. Like alcohol prohibition before it, it is now becoming clear that drug prohibition is not working and is doing us great societal harm. Can we compromise on this? if you will agree to decriminalize marijuana and to enforce the drug laws equally for both rich and poor, in return I am willing to agree to send all cocaine, methamphetamine and opiate dealers to the electric chair. What do you say, Tea Party? Can we make a deal on this?
To beat back the professional politicians and stop the runaway spending we need to work together. How about it, Tea Party? Can we join hands on a few social issues, so that we can begin to work together on saving the country from debt?
Here is a suggestion of a place to start cost cutting, Tea Party. The US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is the federal government's second biggest bureaucracy and its largest waster of tax monies. The VA is bloated and wasteful and completely out of control to the tune of Billions with a big B. Click to read about one "small" US Dept of Veterans' Affairs boondoggle The VA spends more money on travel and entertainment and phony PR expenses than they do on veterans' health care. Lots of room to cut needless costs in the VA. And, the truth is, that the more money the VA has the worse job they do of serving veterans. What say, Tea Party? Can we get together on honoring war veterans by cleaning up the corruption, fraud, waste and abuse at the VA?
Talk to me, Tea Party!
