I pretty much fell out of the whole "pop music" thing years (maybe decades) ago, listen only to what absolutely forces its way into my consciousness against my will, without my permission. Still, despite my addiction to National Public (Talk) Radio, it's not the case that I don't have plenty of tunes boinging around in my head. One of the reasons I stopped listening is that I'm prone to what my friend Toni calls "Earworms": music that you just can't get rid of. It seems that some people have VERY sticky ears, and I'm one of those.
Lots of tunes are like that for me. One such example is The Drifters' Under The Boardwalk, which features regularly in the mental tape loop sountrack I just can't escape.
Even when I can't hear it, it's influencing what I write. Check this out: That's Where I'll be.
