They Look Well Regulated To Me
DON'T GET ME WRONG: I have NOT gone over to the dark, gun-toting, pro-military side. But once again, one of my Facebook friends is making the rounds trying to convince me (ie us) that guns are harmless. Specifically, this friend posts:
TO WHICH I CAN ONLY REPLY:
1) Sadly, people mostly kill people WITH GUNS. And:
2) The Constitution's 2nd Amendment says, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." I think The National Guard qualifies as "a well-regulated militia" & I have no problems with them having guns. But my drunken, wife-beating, semi-psychotic neighbor? NO.
Please don't make me have to say this again.

Ron, I live in the deep South
Ron,
I live in the deep South where gun loving is as much a part of the landscape as the gators and palm trees. I am deeply uncomfortable with the latest FB posting- because of the very reasons you listed above.
I've never read that a gun cocked itself and shot someone. Sadly, people grab the gun in anger or fear and hurt those they love most more often than shooting a threatening stranger.

Guns in the hands of children?
Too many horror stories of kids gaining access to guns. A woman in the writer's group in our town is legal guardian of her grandson. When he was 12 he shot his parents.
What a role for a grandmother to play!
What's the answer? How do we feel secure -- and still remain safe?
I Agree, Ron
Guns often make tragic, tense situations worse.
I just read an article where a woman and her lover were in an argument. She's trying to stop her lover from using heroin. In the midst of the argument, she grabs the gun and points it at her lover, shoots and kills her.
The gun was her lover's.
She runs next door and calls for help. Police arrive and try to save her lover but she dies as CPR is being applied.
There are so many, many more stories like that....
That's it when it comes to
That's it when it comes to guns. Here in Ireland I never see guns. Never have to deal with them. Guns scare me. And hey Ron. Nice to get a response now and then on your post from all those who bother to make an effort to leave a comment! Chilled or what.
