Attended a literary event at the Beat Museum this past Thursday evening. It was billed a Regent Press Moment at the Beat. Featured were several Regent Press authors namely Joseph Arthur (ANOTHER LEAP INTO BLACK), Robert Balmanno (RUNES OF IONA), Janine Canan (GODDESSES, GODDESSES) and Dona Nieto (NAKED SACRED EARTH POEMS) aka La Tigressa who was accompained by her back-up band The Tongues of Flame. There was also film by the late Berkeley filmmaker and artist Claire Burch.
It was a lively event put on in part by Jerry Cimino of the Beat Museum. I highly recommend a visit to the Beat Museum located at 540 Broadway off Columbus Ave - just across from the famed City Lights bookstore. On display are all manner of tribute and relics devoted to the Beat Writer's who hung out in the area back in the mid 50's to early 60's. If you are a Kerouac, Burroughs or Ginsberg fan you must make a visit to the Beat Museum in San Francisco's North Beach. There is also a very eclectic and relevant bookstore which also features art, posters and memorabilia of the Beat era.
Mark Weiman hosted the event, he is the owner and managing editor of Regent Press, a small publishing house, in Berkeley.
