Career collection is, I guess, the word for it. Culled from previously unpublished poems and selections from the author's 20+ books of poetry. This is that book. This is it.
Years ago my friend George Starbuck (who, in 1957, as editor of the Chicago Review, published "Uncle Dog: The Poet at 9") was working on a book of his own and jokingly said he planned to name it "The Works." And I guess that's what this collection is. More than 50 years of writing and publishing. It's a marker. A marker of what? Of a life. And the lives and the lives and the lives. The works.
