Ruth Daigon, A Memorial Poetry Reading, Book Passage, Corte Madera

David Alpaugh, Jack & Adelle Foley, C.B. Follett, Lynne Knight, Jacqueline Kudler, Susan Terris and I will celebrate RUTH DAIGON in a Memorial Reading, Sun., May 30, 2-4 PM, at Book Passage, 51 Tamal Vista Blvd., Corte Madera. Ruth edited the literary journal POETS ON for more than 20 years and is one of America's most gifted lyric and narrative poets... she was the author of 7 books of poetry and received numerous awards for her work including the Ann Stanford Poetry Prize. Before she became a poet Ruth was a noted concert soprano; she toured th U.S. with the New York Pro Musica; appeared on CBS's Camera Three, sang at Dylan Thomas' funeral and collaborated with W.H. Auden for Columbia Records. Ruth's musicianship partly explains the lyrical power she achieved in her verse after she left singing and began writing poetry... [excerpted from Book Passage's announcement]

One of my favorite of Ruth's poems is "Invocation," which begins "Let there be cool linen / and lovers resting between sheets / humming a small heaven between them..."
