ALIEN VS MUTANTS
Fourth Floor 8:30 AM
I place my wallet to the keypad as the light turned red, shit come on I thought, as I did it again. Finally the light turned green and the door unlock. I walked slowly through the hallway passing the bathrooms then around the corner passed the Canon printer to the mouse cages then finally to my desk. Ah yes my desk I love sitting at my desk I like working actually I thought to myself as I turned on my monitors and sat down. I logged into the four sites as the first site became visible in the browser I felt like a robot or closer to singularity then I ever wanted to be. I got up and walked to the water cooler to get the first of many cups of water of the day. A few people were starting to appear as I could hear the loud laughter of several higher ups as if to make everyone aware of their presents – I’m hear, somebody notice me. When I got back to my desk I started to read my Google e-mail first, delete, delete, and read. The first email I read was from Valerie.
Hope you had a good weekend; sorry I missed you at Jeff’s party.
See you Monday
I love that Valerie, if only I could work up the nerve to ask her out. Well back to the day.
Next I checked Facebook, and notice something. People were posting SOS in there – what’s on your mind. There were about four of them and then a couple saying they had been at the doctor’s office and that the waiting rooms and hospital were packed with people. I look for someone I chat with on a regular basis. Joe was on his Facebook. He lived in New York one of the cities that had been mentioned on the new this morning.
I chatted with Joe about the virus, he couldn’t really tell me anything except that a couple of people from his building had the virus and the military came to escort them to the hospital. He asked me if I had seen the new Green Lantern movie and if not he had seen a screening of it. I promptly stop him and called him the spoiler, which was his official super hero name.
Theirs someone at the door!
I then got a text message prompt on my cell, it was from Valerie and Stephanie asking me I want something from the coffee shop on the corner. I replied no.
A new Facebook game request caught my curiosity. The Virus, oh shit they already made a game awesome. The objected of the game was to run from the people puking the virus at you. I played it for about 20 minutes before I got puked on.
More SOS posts popped up, weird I thought why not just type out that you need help and why. Finally Valerie and Stephanie walked into the office and I tried not to be to eager to see her. But inside I felt like a monkey jumping up and down waiting to eat something awesome. She is gorgeous with dark brow hair that fell about four inches below her should. Her skin had a light golden brown tone to it that looked softer then anything I could or ever imagine touching. Her light brown eyes had a sparkle of life in them and she stood about 5 foot by 5 inch tall, prefect I thought. Suddenly a message scrolled across the top of Facebook page, it read. That if you or a relative has thrown up with in the passed 12 hours to report to any local hospital or any pharmacy that has a CDC Notice on the windows.
Wait! I heard something. Yes I heard something like screaming. My hearing is coming back. Fuck yeah! I have to try and listen, maybe I can tell where I am. Shit no luck just fucking screaming and gunshots in the distance. I want so bad to move but no, what if I get shot or I walk into traffic because I can’t see. No I’m going to stay here were I feel relatively safe for now.
9 AM, Alex walked in and took off his jacket while he said good morning.
Alex sat in his chair. He read his daily blogs and opened emails the usual odd pictures and worldly news reports. He sat low in his chair as he ate his morning snacks and drank his coffee. Across from him I started my morning chatting and began a project of undetermined time sequences and shit in shit out routine. I couldn’t stop thinking about Valerie as she walked occasionally passed my desk. I remember asking her a question about the project I worked on just to get a look at her smile as I joke about worldly events. Alex smiled at me from across the way. I could tell he that he had something clever to say as soon as she left. She walked away after about fifteen minutes, and Alex turned in his chair hand steeple together as he leaned back and smile. Just as he started to speak his words of witty remarks, I spoke and said– So Alien Invasion or Nuclear Wasteland Mutants. Which would you want to live in? He couldn’t resist the question. This superseded the urge to rib me with witty comment about Valerie. He tilled his chair back even more as he contemplated the question, I said alien invasion for sure. My reason were the chances of becoming a slave to a superior alien race would be better then facing flesh eating mutant and radiation poisoning.
Our conversation end short with the sound of police cars or rather a fleet of police cars storming down Canal Street then over the Chicago River Bridge. The office mood shifted as many people in the office ran to the windows to get a view of the police cars before they crossed the bridge heading into the downtown area. Only a few stayed at their desk me being one of them. I could see the Internet conversation turn from amusement to concern, the next few minutes moved fast as a couple a women in the office left in a hurry. I looked over at Alex; he opened his phone and put it to his ear, I could tell it was his girlfriend. He got up from his chair and moved out into the hall to hear her better. His face changed as he spoke - telling her to wait for him at his apartment. When he sat back down I could see he would be leaving with the next few minutes.
Sudden announcement of chats popping up on my Facebook and AOL Chat application came to the front of my screen, all asking if I could see what had happen downtown from my building. Just then Alex turn to me and said time to go my friend are you coming? No I replied Valerie is still here. What’s going on? is everything ok? He looked like John McClane from Die Hard. I thought about him saying Getty up motherfucker, no Yippee-ki-yay, motherfucker that what he says in Die Hard one.
He put his jacket on as I stood to give him a bro hug, because for some strange reason I thought about aliens attacking and of course Alex had the guns to recue me if I got caught and probed. Cause they always fucking probe human slave–sick fucking aliens. The office atmosphere change as several individuals stood close to the window waiting for something to happen, maybe they hope to catch a glimpse of the Police cars or ambulance roll by.
