When I was in college, I had the opportunity to visit Haiti for a month. It is an amazing place, a beautiful place, a difficult, impoverished and often frightening place. But the people of Haiti are wonderful, friendly, open and giving.I cannot express how sad I am that catastrophe has befallen them. And so when I saw that Crossed Genres Magazine was instigating a “A Story for Haiti” program I knew that I wanted to participate.I am a writer. Even in the darkest hour, all I have to offer are my words, a story, a way to escape to a place where things do come right in the end, and the victim does triumph.
I have just posted a free fantasy story, "Heart of the Salamander" on my Author's Website as a part of the relief effort.
Here's an excerpt:
They bound her wrists behind her back. Pillars of smoke rose into the night sky, blocking out the stars. Their Captain called for a canopy to protect him from the rain of ash. It was followed by a table, chairs, and refreshments. There, seated in the sand beside the river, they watched his men burn her village to the ground.
I hope that you will go and read it, and donate to the cause.
