Dad sometimes hums while having a meal. I think it’s a good sign that he is enjoying his food.
He also lets out a high-pitched harmony while in the shower. That must be a good sign too because it’s an effort to get him to shower.
Dad is actually quite good at amusing himself. I think that’s a gift! It’s tough when the elderly are cranky.
I wonder what I would be like when I get to age 70? My aunt at 76 looks like she’s only turned 50. She says having beer instead of wine keeps her young.
I thought to myself. This should serve as a good reminder: Watch my weight, as I grow old. A beer a day can do no harm!
I leave dad behind as I head home to the girls. I caught a bad cough and lost my voice but all in all, it was a good break to be with Dad.
He looked at me and said, “It’s good that you’re heading home”. I replied, “What’s wrong? Don’t tell me you’re getting anxious”.
Not really, he justifies. It’s just cold and I don’t like feeling cold. I look around and take note of the following: chocolates, sardines, English muffins, Fuji apples, Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, chestnuts, Coke zero…
As I bid him farewell I suggest that today is a good day to sing in the shower because the weather warmed up. Delightfully he agrees, his anxiety wanes.
He’s got his warmers, his favorite scarf and his outdated leather jacket. I think he’ll be okay.
