I think I can go on for days not speaking.
I am certain that I have gone hours not saying a word.
I don’t mean just a couple of hours.
More like an entire day.
I can hold my silence.
It’s one reason I like sign language and communicating with the deaf.
Voice is not an option.
Beautiful hands tell stories.
I had to face 3 deaf individuals for my level 2 exams in sign language.
I had to sign and gesture a short story and a comic strip.
If they laughed then I would know I did justice to their language.
No more than 5 minutes into my skit they were smiling and clapping in delight!
As I held my silence, I put all my effort into sign and movement.
There’s a way to let the deaf know about winter and snow falling.
There’s a way to make them laugh, to show fear and to be silly.
I couldn’t be happier holding my silence!
