Bittersweet Chocolate

It’s that stretch of the year from his birthday up to the moment we lost him that our home warms and lights up like the morning sun.

A reminder of that very brief moment he touched our lives and left so suddenly.  Same stretch year after year the sun shines with rays of golden umber.

The scent of sweetness lingers, reflections of curly locks of hair, cherubic smile and young love that once bloomed.

In the silence of hearts, the passing of time never forgets.  He rests on the ledge among other treasures.

While stuff gets moved into boxes kept in storage, he remains with us.  I greet mornings and smile at the photo that smiles at me.

Just as I cherish December holidays with family and February hearts with loved ones, in this short stretch a bittersweet thug ignites my heart.

His warmth carries us through with fondest of memories.  However brief, he remains in our hearts.

Nice post, Rina...not easy to do, either.  I still have difficulty writing about the loss of loved ones, yet yours is truly heartfelt and poignant.  Thanks for sharing.~nan

Thank you Jodi, Sue, Nan.

Thank you Jodi, Sue, Nan.  This was a painful death not just for me as a mother but for my 16 year old daughter 4 years ago -- she lost her first boyfriend, first kiss, first love and had to deal with seeing a coffin for the first time!  We've all come a long way from this and now we can look back with the fondest of memories.

A beautiful post

It's difficult-- but at the same time uplifting and wonderful-- that our loved ones stay with us forever.  You make that point eloquently.  Thanks for the post.
