As part of Black History Month at Boudreaux's Cafe in San Francisco's Bayview neighborhood, Richie Unterberger presents "The Golden Age of Soul," a three-part series featuring rare film clips of soul music performers from the 1960s and early 1970s. Entirely different clips will be featured each of the three nights, with some commentary between clips. Each event will last about two hours, with questions and discussion between him and the audience encouraged at the end of the programs. On Monday, February 18 starting 7:30pm, "The Golden Age of Soul Vol. 2" will feature entirely different clips, including footage of performers such as Stevie Wonder, the Supremes, John Lee Hooker, Bill Withers, Wilson Pickett, the Staple Singers, the Bar-Kays, and the Temptations. Boudreaux's Cafe is at 5030 3rd Street (near 3rd and Revere), 415-312-7600. There will be a suggested donation of $5.00, though no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
