“You really are beautiful you know,” You
look at me with so much love in your eyes.
“No,” I respond, startled and confused.
We lean toward each other slowly.
Our first kiss.
“What? No kiss?” You ask me then
smack my butt as I walk toward the door.
“Hey! Sorry, of course.” I laugh and turn to
kiss you before I skip down the stairs
toward the curb to collect the mail.
“I'm miss you already.” You sigh as
I gather my bags to board my flight.
“I'll be back before you know it.” I
respond past the lump in my throat.
“Come here. Give me one more kiss before
you go.” You say with a catch in your voice.
“What's the matter?” I ask sleepily from our bed.
You crouch next to me whispering, “I got called on
an accident.I woke you to let you know. I would have
left a note but I want to kiss you before I leave.”
“Stay safe. I love you.” I mumble as I reach
up to kiss you before falling back to sleep.
I enter the kitchen there you are standing,
waiting patiently, “You didn't leave yet?”
“I was waiting to kiss you goodbye.” You
respond before you leave for work.
Your lids open slowly. You gaze at me.
Your eyes focus on mine. I know this is it.
“Oh, husband, I will love you for the
rest of my life,” I whisper through the tears.
Slowly your mouth closes. With concentrated
effort you pull your lips together.
I carefully lean forward touching mine to yours.
Our last kiss.
