They both plighted their troth only because of Fear -
But do they know when Peril would divorce them
From one another?
The fool thought she would change him for the better;
He thought his church would save her forever
With his sermons of flaming brimstone -
But what would their seething fecklessness know
Of the love that one feels
That lives in the snowcapped mountains of ivory?
No spell by any Weird or worry troubles it:
For true men who love keep no fear in their hearts;
True men know
That Death and the strong force of fate all follow them
For there in their lust to live resides the chain of all-purging Death;
Dread Kali, the Slayer of all Fears!
What would that wretched couple
Ever know of the love I've always known for her?
I chose it and I clove to it and its burden:
Now it rises brilliant
Free from the sleeping earth's seasons,
Far above the pettiness of small minds
It quivers and runs with dragon winds
Beyond the fumes left behind
By petty punters in Taiwan, as worthless offerings at the altar
Of the Queen of the Waves.
Now, rise up my fellow friend,
Go and follow the paths of the heart of bravery
And where your barque shall sail new routes unknown
Away from these roadsteads of windswept moons
Where your old habits lie in berms
And someday, in your dreams,
Where desert dunes crawl, or distant shore wails with salt
There you'll find her again.
