Ren Powell's Biography
Member Info
Ren (Katherine) Powell is a poet and teaching artist - a native Californian living on the west coast of Norway since 1992. She is the author of five full collections of poetry and has more than a dozen books of translation to her credit. Her own poetry has been translated and published in six languages. She has a PhD in Creative Writing at Lancaster University.
Influences
Well, influence doesn't necessarily mean I write like these poets: Robert Bly (his theory of leaping), Robert Hass, Albert Goldbarth, Jorie Graham, Elizabeth Bishop, Odveig Klyve and Kolbein Falkeid. Ask me tomorrow, the list would likely be different.
Upcoming Works
All my books - thus far - are bilingual editions and have been purchased by the Norwegian Arts Council for library distribution. I am currently working on a series of poems that form a "postmodern qasida" based on the life of the American reformer Dorothea Dix.
I have a "new and selected" book forthcoming with Phoenicia Publishing: more info soon.
Agents
The Norwegian Writer's Union has standard contracts. The guild "Forfattersentrum" arranges readings and reading fees.
