Holiday Kindness

Red Room Executive Editor Gina Misiroglu was browsing HLN’s Yule log site which chronicles more than a hundred true stories of holiday kindness. One she really loved was the story of a kindergarten chorus that had learned hand gestures to go with a Christmas song to the tune of “Bingo Was His Name-O.” (Sing with me: “S-A-NTA! S-A-NTA!”) One little girl, however, performed the whole song in American Sign Language so her deaf parents could understand the whole thing.

The girl was raised from birth knowing ASL, but neither her parents nor her teacher knew she’d sing directly to them during the performance. Her parents and the rest of the audience were deeply touched by her kindness, and gave her a special ovation. She went on to perform favorites like “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and “Frosty the Snowman” in ASL, too.

Please tell us a memorable holiday story of kindness. Fiction or nonfiction, about you or someone else, what act of kindness gave meaning to the season for you? Please tag your post holiday kindness blog.
