How great is freedom? How great is choice? We have to love a country where we have both. We have the freedom to buy land, own a house, pets, horses, dogs, cats, and so on. We have the freedom to go out and seek the type of work we want to do and get the education we feel we need without having these needs directed to us from a some would-be dictator who thinks he/she knows whats best for us.
We live in a land that was once owned by people who were even more free than we are and sometimes I think we take that for granted. We took it from them and pushed them to reservations and while we go about our daily deeds... we forget...but let us not forget.... we took this land and we need to remember that freedom is something that has always been here. It is not something we created.
The eagle is a symbol of that freedom. I say eagle. It's funny. I feel the same thing when I see a red-tailed hawk. That bird-of-prey that soars so gracefully over the hills near my home...... still symbolizes freedom to me.
Let is not forget the soldiers in the lands far away...fighting for that very same freedom. I hear the skeptics and the critics on a daily basis telling us we have no need to be in those foreign lands fighting for things that are none of our business. When I hear these things I am saddened by the lack of education that governs the thoughts of such people. They forget that we live in a world where the globe is our business..not just our country. Ya think $4.00 a gallon for gas is a lot? Let our supplies be shut off from other countries and have us relying totally on our stock in Alaska and Texas...or where ever.... Watch the gages that measure our independent supplies drop, while the number of cars per family increases...and five years from now...tell me we shouldn't be defending the countries where we trade goods and services for petroleum. Bet yer gonna have a change of heart there pilgrim! :)
Our freedom is symbolized by the bird of prey that soars so gracefully over the land. As the flag waves and the statue of Liberty holds her torch high, and as the soldiers fight for this freedom both here and abroad, let us not take for granted that we are earning that freedom on a daily basis. On any Sunday you choose..have a turkey and give thanks. Don't wait for Thanksgiving day. Give thanks and be happy to be living in the land.....where the Eagles Fly.
