As I begin typing this, I'm at a loss. What's my favorite city? My goodness. Until being asked that question I doubt it's one I'd ever consider wanting to answer. To be quite honest, I am not a city person and dislike city life in so many ways I wouldn't know where to begin. To my knowledge there is no city on this planet I could consider as a goal or destination.
So, let me see. I've been to the smallest city in the U.S.A. which is Vergennes in Vermont. It's cute, and quite a cozy little place, but it's not a favorite. I've been to Quebec in Canada, Montreal, Portland Maine, Portland Oregon, Manila in the Philippines, Naha Japan, Nassau in the Bahamas, Tampa, Miami, New York, Boston, San Francisco, Oakland, Washington D.C., Richmond Virgina.....I could do this all night. Wow, my favorite city?! I wonder why I'd want to consider this.
I hate the fast paced, push and shove, uncourteous attitudes of inner city life. I very much dislike, a hundred thousand cars gathered in one setting. I don't like hustle or the bustle. But, you want to know my favorite city. Okay....I'm getting to it. I'll think of something before I take up too much of your time here. Sorry for the pondering. I mean come on. We are talking about "Mr. Ethan Allen" here. I'd rather be off the beaten path, ten miles from the nearest road, sitting on the edge of a beaver dam, watching ducks, beavers, deer, hawks, otters,...okay okay...I know..., you weren't talking about favorite "place," but favorite "city." Goodness, gracious....go easier on me next week okay?
Favorite city. Denver, Colorado. Why? Be patient! Did you think I wouldn't tell you? I'm not that much of a tease. Simple. I recently moved here to Denver (okay...three months ago.....kind of recent). I was on Craigslist, searching for work in my ninth month of being unemployed. I came across an ad there by one of the Red Room authors that there was to be an "Erotic Horror" writing contest. I've written the story. I've attempted to contact her several times, and have had no replies, so that story (juicy as it may be) just sits in my documents awaiting another such contest where I will enter it.
So what does this have to do with "my favorite City?" You see what I mean about the patience thing? Gee whiz....relax. It was in that author's profile that I found this very place. This place where I can write my heart out, read what others have to write about, meet other writers who are desperately attempting to "get known" and had I not moved to Denver, Colorado, I would not have seen that Red Room link (at least I highly doubt it). Had I not seen that link, I'd not be sitting here scratching the hair out of my scalp trying to decide on a Favorite City. So, there it is. Denver, Colorado gets my vote.
