Hating Kapatid, my first solo children's book, was just launched at the Manila International Book Fair, which is ongoing until tomorrow. I was there to sign books yesterday at the Adarna booth. And I just might be again tomorrow.
I was really pleased by the reactions to the book, many of which gave credit to the colorful illustrations for attracting attention (the illustrator, Fran Alvarez, is pictured opposite me, next to Ani Almario of Adarna. Many buyers were parents of pre-school to early grades children, who were drawn to the theme of sharing between siblings. And there were math teachers too, who were pleased to find a story that introduced fractions.
See you at the book fair, I hope! I will probably bring my book-loving daughter despite the fact that I know she will constantly be sitting down to read books and refuse to move on if she's engrossed in something and may very well beg for us to buy more than we planned to. But how can I not encourage her love of books?
