You know I remember a conversation I had a long time ago with fellow dancers in a ballet company I used to dance for. I'll just give you the gist of it all.
"Why is so-and-so getting promoted to principal dancer? How come you are now a senior soloist? It's not fair! I've been dancing longer and harder than you. My technique is better and I am more versatile and smarter than you. What's going on?"
Then when I was touring with a contemporary dance company, a similar conversation popped up (see above).
And when I toured with CATS to Korea and China, somehow the same conversation crept in (again, see above).
Now I sometiems get the same feeling that we let the success (perceived as easy or lucky or unfair) of others put us down. Don't go down that road! It ends bitterly. Spend your energy rather on dancing (if you're a dancer) to the best of your ability and talent.
I love hearing and reading about success stories. And I have to remind myself every time that these are not my success stories. My success story will be different from the others, like a fingerprint...
The fact I'm here on this planet called Earth, able to write every day with all my limbs and faculties intact, is enough of a success story to me.
Let's make our own success stories happen this year! Come on, guys! We can do it!
