sonnet

So now I lie in bed awake at night
To fight with nightmares of my little girl
Walking down a darkened alley one night
To rescue a kitten from a hobo -
The same hobo who killed and ate his own
Little girl so long ago, mistaking
Her for a spicy steak hamburger on legs.
Reborn insane with a love for stray cats
Who knows when next he'll strike and order in?
I toss and turn with her cot next to me
And wonder if this world's a place to be
A beautiful angel princess of light?
My foolish dreams of death screams and ice creams
Remind me newborns aren't safe from my fears.
