Eyes bulge out at me
From the other side.
Nine pairs of eyes look hopeful
For a treat,
A scrap of something at least,
Anything to eat really.
I give them nothing but my smile,
Tracing the scratches with my finger
On the glass
As they say,
“Oh no! Oh no!”
They wave their tails like happy dogs,
Wave their fins like hungry butterflies,
Stare at me like newborns at their newmoms,
Bumping their bright orange beauty
Against each other and the tank.
I wave goodbye.
