Po Bronson on Nurtureshock

Po Bronson argues that when it comes to raising children, we've mistaken good intentions for good ideas. Nurtureshock: New Thinking about Children, written with Ashley Merryman, describes why that many of modern society's methods for nurturing children arent working.

Good Interview on parenting.

I liked what you said about progressive dads. They are flexible dads, they mostly correct the mistakes that their dads had done, they do a lot of analysis and rectification. Yes, appreciation is one of the keys in molding a character. Minus, that the child lives with a sense of deprivation through out his life.
The closing lines were perfect, People do look for smart work, finally.

very practical good advice

I agree with you, too, based on seeing how my own daughters react to my praise & from what I've observed when I volunteered in classrooms.
I wonder if measuring IQ is really a good idea, because over and over I have seen examples of labeling kids "smart" makes them give up if they don't understand a lesson or task right away. Then motivation becomes a real challenge!
Good interview, thanks.
