For the past couple of weeks I've been defending the replacement referees because I find it unfair to place the blame for their incompetance on them. After all the replacements are only there because the NFL hired them, right?
Let's all be honest for a minute here. If you were a D3 football official and shall we say the NFL telephoned you offering you a job that pays 3,500 bucks for a few hours of work on Sunday what would you say?
Come on, be honest now.
You would take that money wouldn't you?
Let's face it. Each and every Sunday we football fans watched the "real" referees and often times second guessed them didn't we?
We all think that we can do a better job than the pros don't we?
Come on, be honest now.
How many times have we screamed at those "real refs", or accused them of being blind or even calling them names their mother didn't give them?
Come on, be honest now.
How many times have we thought these refs could easily be replaced by people like us who really know the game?
Come on, be honest now.
Roger Goodell thought the same thing my friends and look at the mess the Commissioner of the National Football League has made of the most popular spectator sport in America.
That's right football fans. Roger Goodell thinks just like the rest of us. He thinks the "real" refs are easily replaced and to prove this he did just that didn't he?
As we can now clearly see Roger was wrong to think these fellas could be replaced and so were we.
Roger Goodell replaced the "real" refs with us except for one small detail; these replacements aren't like us as most of us have never worn the zebra shirts and actually worked a game.
The real shame is that we fans allowed him to do so.
How you ask?
By watching the games each and every week.
That's how.
Why should Goodell bring back the "real" refs?
The fans are still buying tickets.
The fans are still buying cable and satellite packages.
The fans are still buying jerseys and everything else that the NFL profits from.
It's business as usual.
What would you say if the supermarket that you frequent were knowingly selling products that they knew could endanger their workers or their customers?
You would tell them to #$%^ *&^ and never return wouldn't you? You'd probably urge your friends to not financially support this market any longer until they cleaned their act up, right?
Isn't the NFL knowingly doing the same thing as the fictional supermarket?
Sure they are and it's time we the customer tell the NFL to @#$% (*& until they clean up their act.
It's time to boycot the NFL until they clean up their act.
Are you with me?
