I was a pretty depressed NHL fan when the lockout occurred and along came a wonderful surprise via email. It was an invitation from Author David Frauenfelder to read his first Fantasy Sports Novel Skater in a Strange Land.
I read the book, LOVED it and am probably the books biggest fan.
I absolutely fell in love with the continent of Borschland and my mind would sometimes drift thinking about this amazing fictional place. Things like the religion, politics, customs and the people themselves were questions that really weren’t answered in Skater in a Strange Land and I figured I might not ever get the answers.
Along came The Skater and the Saint and all my questions were answered.
Frauenfelder takes us on another journey through Borschland in his sequel to Skater in a Strange Land with an amazing tale that is difficult to put down. Frauenfelder has a unique talent of keeping the reader guessing and Skater and the Saint will leave you guessing until the very end.
The main protagonist, Sherm Reinhardt, is all grown up now with a wife, kids and remains the best hockey player in Borschland. Reinhardt is once again caught up in a crazy adventure and of course the entire family is involved making this story an incredible literary journey you won’t be able to put down.
The Skater and The Saint was everything I had hoped it to be and more. While I absolutely enjoyed the hockey stories what I think I enjoyed most was getting to the continent of Borschland. The mythology, religions and customs were well thought out and very believable and let’s not leave out the talking bears!
The Skater and The Saint is a fantasy lovers dream come true and if you haven’t read the first book you’ll still enjoy this book. Of course after reading The Skater and The Saintyou’ll want to pick up Skater in a Strange Land and I encourage you to do so!
Five Stars for a great read that is suitable for readers of all ages and genres!
