Congratulations! In this day and age of social media, bloggers galore and crazy on air radio personalities urging people to vote for Mickey Mouse winning an election isn’t an easy feat and I applaud you. After the champagne goes flat and the confetti is scooped up you have a huge responsibility on your hands and I for one wish you all the best. The reason for this open letter is simple; I ask you to consider some things that have bothered me for years.

Please remember that you now work for the people and not the party you represent. While the party you represent promoted you it was US, the people of the great country of the United States of America who actually put you into the office you now hold. Your party didn’t hire you WE did and you work for US.

Please remember that whatever party finds their way into the White House, Congress, Senate and respective State Houses that you all need to find a way to work together to make America strong. You aren’t there to do what’s best for your party but what’s best for the people. Please don’t lose sight of that.

Please remember that whoever is elected to the highest office in the land has the most difficult job in the world. He needs you to work with him and not undermine his efforts. Please remember that when you take personal shots at the President publicly or refuse to even consider what he has to say you aren’t hurting him or his party you’re hurting US, the people who YOU work for.

Please remember that you are very intelligent clever people. You are skilled orators and debaters who understand logic, reason and the powers of persuasion. When you hear ideas that you disagree with please use those skills to build up America and please forgo the insinuations and innuendo and the other assorted rhetoric that divides rather than unites. There’s a reason why we’re called the UNITED States of America you know.

Well, that’s enough for now. Again, I congratulate you on your election victory and I wish you all the best. My hope is that you bring your best to Washington, and if you do, your best will unite and make America that much stronger!
