Circumstance:
on a conference/workshop tour, passing through Cherry Hill, NJ, flat tire, Pepboys, fix-a-flat service, clerk misestimates time involved: a half hour repair turns into a two and half hour wait.
Solution and Dissolution:
Waiting time is, however, shortened by an amazing conversation with an infectiously enthusiastic, young, wide-open mind, named Katy, who is able to go from perfectionism to a powerful precedent of self-acceptance in under 5 minutes of our banter, during her smoking break. Then, there is Jake, the clerk that misestimates the time involved, brightens the experience with sincere apology (that is so rare in today’s customer service) and ultimately charges nothing for the repair. And, then, on the way out of the shop, there’s a fleeting encounter with a couple of high-energy guys that seem to dance on the edge of friendliness and substance-induced mania.
Post-scriptum:
Earth spins its wheel of ordinary perfection, knowing no flats of experience. I was just there long enough to notice it. Are you noticing the spin?
