Paula Calhoun's Biography
Member Info
For as long as I can remember, I have loved words and language. My father taught me to learn how to express myself verbally, and I haven't stopped talking since. I began writing by using poetry, and expanded that - especially in my adult years to include humorous odes and serious poetic observations of the world around me in what I see and how I feel at any particular time. I would like to work on short story writing and I am seeking to branch out into short story writing and want to learn all I can about that genre, as well as about writing in general. I spend a significant portion of each day in writing, and contribute regularly to my blog, "Reflections From a Cloudy Mirror," a site of various forms of writing and photographic expression, including stream-of-consciousness writing.
Because of a serious surgical accident, I am no longer able to use my dominant right hand. I have been a musician for most of my life, and played a number of instruments that require the use of both hands - piano and guitar, to name two. As I have essentially lost that form of artistic expression, I have recemtly taken up photography, and I am daily working on that craft, with hopes of obtaining a degree in that field, especially nature photography, for which I have a critical eye.
Family life, reading, music (vocal performing), actin, movie watching and television viewing comprise large portions of each day. I enjoy cooking and would do more if my hand worked better; as it is I still enjoy entertaining, both my familyand my circle of friends.
Above all of these things, my faith in God overarches, and informs all of my activities. While "Christian literature" (often an oxymoron) is not my taste or style, my abiding faith still is a part of my writing, because it is my life, and can be separated from nothing.
I love life.
