One racing turtle
One traveling tuna
One vacationing shark
Two wandering seabirds...
And one big ocean.
Tag along!
High-tech satellite tags have revolutionized the study of large ocean predators--animals that often can't be kept in captivity or observed easily in the wild. Over the years I wrote a number of stories about the Tagging of Pacific Predators (TOPP) project run by scientists from Stanford University and Monterey Bay Aquarium. PROWLING THE SEAS is a "greatest hits" collection of migrations that stunned researchers and lead to new insights about open ocean predators.

High tech tags have revolutionized the study of open ocean predators. So many new insights have been gained that one scientist has told me, "A fish would have to walk on land to really surprise me!"
