The truth in that vision started many years ago. When America broke away from England, it was truly about capitalism and civil rights. When the North fought the South, it was about capitalism and civil rights. Everything is based on the fairness of the right to work for the American dream gained by capitalism and civil rights for all citizens. One hundred years after slavery ended, there were still slaves in places in the south. In the late 1800’s, after slavery my Great grandfather on my fraternal side of the family was stolen off the side of a road in North Carolina at the age of nine. He had lost his ear from frostbite by cruelty of his kidnappers. When the man who had stolen him away from his family was dying, he called my Great grandfather Steve, a man at this time, to his bedside and gave him a deed to some of his land. Angry and bitter, my great grandfather rode into town on a mission. He gave the land away and whatever was on it to anyone who would take it. African Americans in the 1960s fought for capitalism and civil rights along with other people of this country who knew that their civil rights were threatened and violated. Here we are again faced with a battle for our rights, those of color, gender and creed and class. When voter suppression is tried by lawmakers who should be complying with those laws voted and died for it brings back to mind history that is not so long ago. When Al Gore had the election stolen from him and the country was in shock from the fact that could take place in a time ethics and morals need to be called into question on all that we do. The status quo cannot continue to do wrong by people and expect it not to weaken our country. A divided country will eventually have another civil war, and possibly collapse because we are not living up to the words we use to boast about our greatness to other countries but they no longer believe the words of our leaders who show more division since we have a President of color who is doing a fantastic job. He has accomplished with the people and some of Congress keeping America from total collapse. Those who are running with the agenda that only one ethnicity or gender should be the only person to sit in the President’s chair isn’t representing a country who sat the standards as a leader of the free world are dangerous and will always have hidden agendas because their vision of a free world does not include color. These people keep wishing they could go back to the time of slavery, as if that would solve today’s problems. These Americans believe the rest of Americans are so blind or stupid that discrimination cannot be identified.
