Pamela Hawley's Biography

Ms. Hawley is founder and CEO of UniversalGiving (www.UniversalGiving.org).  UniversalGiving (UG) is a social entrepreneurship nonprofit that helps people volunteer with and donate to the top-performing international NGOs. UniversalGiving offers a variety of way for donors to become involved through organizations, projects, or “Gift Packages” as featured in the New York Times.   Gift Packages allow people to give funds for a specific goal, such as $50 which feeds a family in Sudan for one week.UniversalGiving’s service is unique: 100% of your donation goes to the projects; and all projects are reviewed under a rigorous Quality Model. UniversalGiving Corporate is a customized version for global employee giving and volunteer programs, which contributes to UniversalGiving’s sustainability. UniversalGiving is an award-winning organization which has been featured on the homepage of BusinessWeek (http://www.businessweek.com/managing/content/dec2008/ca20081224_387821.htm) as well as in the New York Times, Ladies Home Journal, and Bay Area Business Women.

Ms. Hawley was a co-founder of VolunteerMatch (VM) which has matched two million volunteers with nonprofits.  She also launched VolunteerMatch Corporate, a version for employee volunteer programs. More than 20 Fortune 500 companies became clients, generating $1 million+ and 43% of VM’s sustainability. Ms. Hawley’s international experience includes work and volunteering abroad in microfinance in remote villages of India; crisis relief work in the 2000 El Salvador earthquake; sustainable farming in Guatemala. Studies include a political science degree cum laude at Duke University and scholarship in international/communications masters at The Annenberg School of Communications, USC.
