Dahlia Ravikovitch from True Love
Livelihood translated by Orna Raz
To hell with the poem, I need cash
And it is because of what I heard from you,
and I heard you,
and I heard you and you and you.
As a figure of speech
they say that the sea never rests .
I do not get to the sea
I drag my feet on a sidewalk
and you have no rest and I have no leisure.
And the tiles are crooked
and that is only a fraction of what I have got to say,
as a matter of fact I have been silent for years
and I don’t say a thing.
And I give up easily on the splendor and the light
I almost don’t remember ,
and that is indeed a nagging problem
from practical and other stand points.
And all that I said is no more
than a quick sigh and a clearing of the throat
because to hell with the poem and all that it has,
the bottom line is
I need cash.
