You know you have known love if like Nelson Mandela when you die the world mourns your passing. You know you understand the power of love, if like Nelson Mandela you stood steadfast for 27 years to defend your cause and helped to usher in a new era of equity and freedom. You know you have lived love and it has held you close in tight embrace if like Nelson Mandela you were an intimate part of the change when it happened and you lived to be on the other side. Love is that enduring and that committed as was Nelson Mandela whose 95 years on this earth we honor today and always.
It seems incredible that as the world pays tribute to Nelson Mandela,
-- Winnie Mandela seems to be the forgotten woman. The expression,
"Behind every successful man, stands a woman", holds true, so why
neglect it now? It seems as though there is a gag order against
mentioning Winnie's name.
During Nelson's incarceration, Winnie Mandela's work and leadership
with the ANC was admirable. She played a very significant and
critical role in keeping the movement alive. Similarly, Winnie played
a major role in keeping Nelson's spirits uplifted.
It is incomprehensible that reporters, especially women, can be so
neglectful and disrespectful to a woman of her courage and actions. I
call upon reporters and commentators to include Winnie Mandela's
significant role in Nelson's life.

P.S. I personally met with Winnie Mandela. She took me on a tour
through the shack towns in South Africa. Her insights on the future
were remarkably astute.
