Olen Steinhauer was born in Baltimore, grew up in Virginia, and has lived in Pennsylvania, Texas, California, Massachusetts, and New York, as well as Croatia, Romania, Italy and Hungary.
The author of five thriller-based novels set in a fictional Eastern/Central-European country during the decades of the Cold War, his next novel, a contemporary spy tale called The Tourist, will be released in late 2008. It has already made some sparks in a flush of foreign-language rights and a film deal with Warner Bros and Smoke House Productions (helmed by Grant Heslov and George Clooney).
Twice nominated for an Edgar Award for Best Novel and Best First Novel, Steinhauer has gained six award nominations for his work--always a bridesmaid, but not yet a bride.
He lives in Budapest with his wife, Slavica, and daughter, Margo, and tries to write well.
