Sometimes I can write quite a bit, it just flows, reams of paper flying off my desk.... I usually start off hesitantly but soon get into the groove, gain steady steam and am well on my way to writing at least a short story. Completely energised to write!! At other times all I can do is make grocery lists or a 'to do' list for the day and I have to be content with just that. My muse eludes me completely.
But I was just wondering what constitutes real writing and what is merely frivolous non-prose? Doesn’t any kind of writing amount to ‘Writing’. I think it does. Maybe not a grocery list but even a 'to do' list for the day does hold some value and potential. An e-mail to someone describing a short weekend break that was 'tres' enjoyable or a letter to an old friend whom I haven't caught up with in ages, filling her in on my life, definitely fall into the category of ‘Writing'. All this requires some amount of thought and probably crafting. So I think we unwittingly do alot more writing that we realize every day, and maybe should give ourselves a little credit for that as well.
