Some things never get old. Opening the e-mail in-box and finding a contract is one of them. The joy I get working on edits is another. Seeing the cover of a book in which one of my stories will appear? Total elation. The top of this process is of course having a copy in my hand, but that'll come a bit later.
Bold Strokes Books has a duet coming with one of the best themes I've seen: Noir. WOMEN OF THE MEAN STREETS and MEN OF THE MEAN STREETS focus on lesbian and gay noir respectively, and the table of contents for both were just announced.
For WOMEN OF THE MEAN STREETS, here's the list:
ARM and the Woman by Laura Lippman
Den of Iniquity by Lori L. Lake
Boomerang by Carsen Taite
The Economies of Desire by Jeane Harris
Some Kind of Killing by Miranda Kent
Anything for the Theater by Clifford Henderson
Social Work by Kendra Sennett
Devil in Training by Ali Vali
The Darkest Night of the Year by Victoria A. Brownworth
Lost by J. M. Redmann
Chasing Athena by Diane Anderson-Minshall
Lucky Thirteen by Anne Laughlin
Feedback by Lindy Cameron
I'm quite looking forward to Anne Laughlin's story, and of course J.M. Redmann's. And - hello - Laura Lippman! Trust BSB to get me just as excited about the sister anthology.
For MEN OF THE MEAN STREETS, here's the list:
Keeping the Faith by ‘Nathan Burgoine
Patience, Colorado by Rob Byrnes
Mouse by Jeffrey Round
Faithful by Michael Thomas Ford
Spin Cycle by Greg Herren
Murder on the Midway by Jeffrey Ricker
The Thin Blue Line by Max Reynolds
An Appetite for Warmth by Neil Plakcy
Miss Match by Adam McCabe
Last Call by Mel Bossa
The Case of the Missing Bulldog by Josh Aterovis
Imago Blue by Felice Picano
The Cocktail Hour by John Morgan Wilson
Private Chick by Julie Smith
Yep. As Stickabutter says, "There's me, there." Is this not a fantastic group of authors with which to keep company? I see many FOOL alumni there - any anthology I get to take part in with Rob Byrnes, Greg Herren, Felice Picano, and Jeffrey Ricker is a great feeling - and the other authors include some major awesomeness.
I'm stoked. "Keeping" has a character I really enjoyed writing, and I really hope people enjoy reading.
More announcements to follow as events warrant. Preorders available at Bold Strokes Books.
