Yes, you read that right...April 23, 2012! I now have obtained fourteen copies of a World Book Night title, The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, that was never handed out a year ago. They should have been, but for whatever reason, the book giver didn't follow through. I am now going to give them away...not sure where yet, but I will soon.
This past Friday and Saturday members of the Friends of the Huron Public Library were clearing out books that we have taken in for the annual book sale we hold in July. Because the library removed so many books from their shelves, we had to sort through and cull down more than fifty percent of them to have a manageable inventory for our sale. One of the members made a remark about how finding multiple copies of The Kite Runner. I immediately asked if the cover said anything about World Book Night, and she responded in the affirmative. At that point, I said that they should have been given away and that I would buy them to do exactly that.
Now, it is just a matter of where and when. So once again, I will give away books to those light and non-readers in my community, thus sharing an excellent read. I read it several years ago, enjoyed it, and with the advent of his newest novel, it should be fun to give it away, albeit a year later. I'm not sure it matters that there was a delay; what matters is that these books are given away.
