The project winding down...loose ends and moving odds and ends

The "project", that is the rehabbing of our new (old) house, is still winding down.  We have continued clearing up lots of loose ends.  Except for finishing the hallway leading back to the laundry room (in the house itself), there are just little projects left.

The hallway's walls have been dry-walled and painted and the bi-fold door has been installed, but the floor still is not quite finished.  Like the other floors in the house, it is a chestnut hickory floating floor...a few of the boards are down, but there is still about a three-foot square area to be completed. The dropped ceiling has to be finished, too.  The other night Rob installed LED lights in the main panel of the ceiling.  The rest of the ceiling's panels have to be cut to fit and then installed.

Some of the loose ends include jobs like staining and polyurethaning the new doors, installing the kick plate in the kitchen, and adding baseboards to the bathroom.  Some touching up of paint still needs to be done, too.  There are others to be done as well, and they will get done as time permits, especially since we are moving odds and ends, too.

The large move that included most of the furniture occurred  last week, but there are still smaller pieces of furniture and other items like pictures, kitchen  utensils, and books that didn't get moved then that we are slowly bringing over with daily trips to our condo.  It is amazing how much we can pack into our "trucks" (we own a Saturn and Prius, but we have decided that they are really trucks in disguise).  We have found that bringing small loads of items makes settling them into their new locations easier because it is not so overwhelming.  We are also fortunate that the two houses are located so close to each other.

Next week, the garage project will start with the digging of the foundation for the concrete. Hopefully, by the time the garage is finished (as summer ends), so will all the little niggling loose ends and everything moved from the other house.
