The Huron Playhouse may have a sixty-third season, after all. Or so I have been informed by the Managing Director herself. That is, if (and it is a big IF) they raise enough funds to continue the longest continuous running summer theatre program in the state of Ohio. They are being set free of the constraints of Bowling Green University's Department of Theatre and Film, and will become an entity of its own. The upside to this is the Huron Playhouse will have more freedom to continue to do the kind of shows that people from northern Ohio (and beyond) have come to expect. The downside is, of course, raising enough funds to be able to continue this program.
They will be looking at funding through grants, but mostly, donations made out to The Huron Playhouse, P.O. Box 487, Huron, Ohio 44839 will be greatly appreciated in helping to raise more than the $ 200,000 necessary to keep this historical program viable. They are also looking for suggestions for other creative ways to fund the program. Those can also be sent to the same address.
This year's company includes sixty-eight members, including actors, directors, designers, technicians, and administrative staff, from the following states and countries:

These students get college credit as well as room and board and a stipend for their participation in the program.
The mission of the Playhouse has always been to provide student-artists with production opportunities that allow them to develop the skills, abilities, techniques, attitude, and spirit necessary for success in the theatre world. The Playhouse has always welcomed community involvement from children and adults of all ages, while giving audiences top-notch entertainment at popular prices.
Three of the five plays have been completed for the season, but The Curious Savage and Rodgers and Hammerstein's State Fair remain. Consider making reservations at 419-433-4744 to see one or both of these plays or consider making a donation to keep this valuable educational program alive.
