With events ripped from today’s headlines, Rob Smith’s McGowan’s Retreat takes us on a roller coaster ride of financial upheavals and meltdown and their effects upon a clergy couple, Shelly Martin and Jerry Ferguson. The ups, downs, and curves of this novel fly fast as McGowan follows leads about a friend’s disappearance and the lengths others will go to make sure that evidence disappears, which leads me to wonder, “could this be true?” and other lingering questions that makes me, like McGowan, say, “but, but…” It is a satisfying ride of a novel reminding me, at times, of David Baldacci. Like a roller coaster ride, I want to read it again to catch all the nuances I may have missed the first time.
McGowan's Retreat, a novel by Rob Smith, will be released in April 2009 by Drinian Press LLC. It will be available through online bookstores such as Barnes and Nobles and Amazon.com
