where the writers are
A poet lariat...

...is one of those things needed to help lasso in escaping words, words of description, words of flight and fancy, in order to create a more perfect poem, a poem that gives life and speaks to the human within.  Or a poet lariat can be used, perhaps, to wrestle, hogtie, and then drag in reluctant patrons into coffeehouse poetry readings, especially those who don't want to listen to angsty poets droning on and on about their lives of woe and misery interspersed by guitarists who can barely strum their instrument, know a chord or two, and sing off-key.

Do I need a poet lariat to improve my poetry, to help me choose my words?  Probably!  However, I don't want to be forced to listen to coffeehouse poets; I want to have a choice.

On the other hand, there are good poets who produce good poetry.  They write insightful poetry, and their words touch the universal within us.  Now, for that, I could be roped in!

Poet Lariat

Hi Nancy, I used the lariat in the laureate poem I was expected to write for my "crowning" at the NC Capitol in 2005.  I'll have to post that poem on my blog for you!

poet lariat

Hi Nan, I posted the poem this morning on my blog, but you'll get a better view if you use the link I provided to the NC Arts council site where they offer a pdf of the poster, where the line breaks look the way they should.    I've another blog post telling a little about the "crowning."  I think I put it up on Sat., if I remember right, which doesn't always happen these days.
